The challenge
EdComs and Google worked together to develop an education strategy in 2006. The strategy helped to inform resource development and business direction in the area of education.
In 2009, Google decided to update and refine the strategy, in order to identify areas for investment that were a good fit with their current business objectives.
EdComs used an iterative, consultative process in order to develop an education strategy for Google. The process was designed to ensure that we gained a comprehensive understanding of Google's current activity whilst identifying where potential existed for further engagement and positive impact.
The process allowed us to explore the potential benefits for Google's target educational audiences and possible avenues for development, while ensuring their viability and fit with Google's business objectives.
Our approach
Our staged process involved:
- interviews with educational ICT experts
- a development workshop bringing together key internal Google stakeholders.
- a development session with education stakeholders to explore opportunities for Google to engage with schools.
Outcomes
We produced an education strategy and implementation plan that included:
- vision and mission
- strategy framework
- key challenges
- potential partners
- opportunities for promotion and PR.
This strategy is now in research.
