The challenge
As part of a Key Stage 4 Personal Finance Education resource, EdComs Film was asked to give teenagers the opportunity to express their vision of the future, their ambitions and dreams. In the context of their hopes, they were asked to consider and discuss their understanding of, and attitude towards, personal financial planning.
Accessed through a YouTube channel on the 2070 website, teenager viewers are invited to watch and post their own videos responding to the same themes.
Our approach
EdComs Film spent time recruiting a diverse range of teenagers from a 16 year old entrepreneur to a mad keen skater boy and a would-be professional dancer. Each was interviewed informally in their own environment. We asked them to talk frankly about how they expected to achieve their dreams and where they thought financial planning would feature in the futures they described.
We chose a filming style to reflect the teenagers' future-gazing and captured their personalities by filming them engaged in their favourite activities.
