What we do: Film

Our role in EdComs

EdComs Film responds to the growing demand for professionally produced film and video within the education market. Our portfolio reflects the evolution of both our clients' communication requirements and the expectations of our audiences within rapidly changing learning environments.

Our productions may be part of a fully integrated, multi-platform educational resource, a particular live event or a research project, or stand alone in the form of a DVD or broadcast programme.

From short dramas to case studies, promos to demonstrations, EdComs Film develops bespoke concepts to meet a brief. Whether we're seeking to provide a stimulating curriculum-based starter for a lesson, a focused campaign or an interactive video, high production values and impactful, purposeful content and messages appropriate to our audiences underpin all our work.

Where appropriate, EdComs Film involves young people directly in its programme-making as performers, presenters, explorers and experiential learners.

Core skills/background

EdComs Film is led by Head of Film, Catherine Peters, an executive producer and director with over 13 years of experience in television and film, many of which focused solely on film created for and with young people, schools and educators.

Our full time Production Manager, Pia Luck, coordinates our production processes, managing producers, crews, workflows, post-production routes and delivery requirements.

How we work

We provide the full production process for our clients.

  • Concept development – we work with EdComs Programme Development team and our clients to come up with a suitable approach
  • Pre-production – we develop a synopsis and storyboards or guide scripts, research, recce and cast the films and select an appropriate crew for the work
  • Production – we shoot either on location or in the studio, and call on the services of EdComs Digital where graphics or animation are required
  • Post-production – we digitise footage and offline edit for client viewings, before proceeding to online edit, encoding, mastering and delivering either in DVD format, or on our clients' websites.
