Mixed methods

The vast majority of the research projects that EdComs undertakes involve a combination of qualitative, quantitative and secondary research methods.

Although we have two distinct teams with specialist primary and secondary research skills, we work across methods at both data collection and analytic stages.

All members of the Research team are experienced in at least two areas of methodological expertise and are actively encouraged to develop new skills.

We often run staged, iterative research projects. These include up-front desk analysis which feeds into the development of qualitative and quantitative primary research.

Our projects are diverse and so we have a variety of analytic tools for small and large scale projects, across qualitative and quantitative datasets.  These include using mind maps, internal validation sessions and developing thematic templates to organise data, in addition to the use of software packages like SPSS and NVivo.
